What was Edward R. Murrow’s style of journalism and what impact did it have on the field of journalism?

Edward Murrow reported the facts at any and all costs.  Not only did he want the American public to know what was going on in society, he believed it was the duty of news reporters to provide this service.  He sought to provide an un-candid report regardless of the personal impact he may take.   He urged others to make the same sacrifice and to utilize the great communication tool of television.  He feared that society would fail to utilize it properly.

Many of Murrow’s peers admired him.  His courage to report the truth and to have no fear in the face of conflict was impressive.  He received formal recognition for his efforts.  Unfortunately, reporters like Edwards Murrow are of a dying breed.  It is rare to find a person to lay it all on the line for a story anymore.

Television stations do not exist to provide us with news or entertainment.  They exist to generate profits.  In order to do so, they provide news and entertainment that we want to watch, in order to sell advertising in between these programs.  The truth has less importance than the profit generating side of television.  Even Murrow faced cancellation for taking on the senator.
