Why do we need to take intercultural communication into consideration as communicators?

Every culture has different customs and unique ways of communicating. It is important that communicators take into consideration a more global audience in order to deliver a message that is meaningful and well received by the masses.

It would be critical for a world leader to understand how to communicate to a broader audience. His message would be seen by everybody in the world. Even a student delivering a message can benefit because maybe his audience includes a few students studying from other countries. Being able to reach other cultures with a message is critical, otherwise only a portion of the audience will receive the message.

The diverse nature of intercultural communication is not just limited to countries and regions. It would also include the subcultures found everywhere as well. The book gives examples of Native Americans and German Americans as two groups that surfaced with newspapers to reach others. Being able to include topics and information that is important to them is necessary to establish a strong relationship with those being communicated to.

The civil rights and gay rights movement would be along the same lines. It's a subculture with alternate voices that deserve to be heard and responded to. This facilitates a better understanding between all cultures.
