Explaining the differences between one-way and two-way communication and why two-way communication is important for the new communications network.

One-way communication involves a source of information sending the message through a form of media to a receiver. It’s called one-way communication because the sender transfers information to the receiver and that is the end of that communication.

Two-way communication is similar.  A source sends information through a form of media to a receiver; however, the receiver can then offer feedback to that information making it interactive. Since information is being transferred between sender and receiver and receiver to sender, it is easy to see how he received its name.

The digital delivery age has altered everything. In the early 1990’s business was handled through personal 1-on-1 meetings, telephone calls (non-cellular), and postal mail.  In the current era most business is handled through email, cell phones, and through websites.  The digital age offered a form of quick interaction and exchange of information. These new forms of communication were not only fast but convenient.

Two-way communication has incorporated itself into so much of everyday life that without it would cause a major breakdown in the communication network. The public, the receivers of digital information demand the quick delivery and instant feedback that can be offered to the sender of information.

Twenty years ago it was an amazing capability to send a picture through email, which took hours.  Now entire music albums, movies, and software programs are made instantly available within minutes via download. That media can then be altered or changed instantly.

Most people cannot fathom the idea of not having a cellular phone or text messaging available. The audience, the receivers of information, and the senders of information have made the need for two-way communication. The way the world operates is dependent upon two-way communication.
